MRCKC Training

One of the primary goals for the Medical Reserve Corps is training volunteers so that we will be ready to respond if the need arises.

Full Corps Membership Meetings

Bi-monthly membership meetings allow volunteers to build relationships with each other, maintain regular face-to-face contact with unit leadership, and learn about topics of interest from special guest speakers.

The current schedule for the Full Corps membership meetings is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November. All Full Corps membership meetings are held at Mid-America Regional Council, 600 Broadway, Kansas City, MO.

MRC-TRAIN

MRC-TRAIN is a learning management system with a centralized, searchable database of courses relevant to the Medical Reserve Corps.

MRC-TRAIN simplifies the tracking of training requirements and course completions. Volunteers are assigned a Training Plan that includes both required and optional training, and personal online transcripts are available to each volunteer.

Through MRC-TRAIN, volunteers have access to hundreds of additional public health courses from nationally recognized course providers. These courses are offered in the form of web-based learning, on-site learning, and satellite broadcasts.

Core Competency Training Classes

Volunteers are encouraged to complete the following core competency training classes:

  • Orientation
Orientation classes are offered from 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. every two months, immediately before the Full Corps membership meetings. New volunteers are encouraged to stay after orientation training to attend a Full Corps membership meeting.
  • Personal and Family Preparedness
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) preparedness training is available online and in a classroom setting. To complete the course online, visit  IS-22: Are You Ready? An In-Depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness and send a copy of your certificate of completion to Charlie Bryan (e-mail to cbryan@marc.org or fax to 816-421-7758). The classroom-based training for this course takes four hours to complete and is generally scheduled on a Saturday. Check the calendar to find the next scheduled classroom-based training.
  • National Incident Management System IS-100 and IS-700
MRC volunteers required by federal mandate to comply with National Incident Management training standards as a condition of receiving federal grant funds. MRC volunteers must successfully complete the following two online self-study courses:

Once you have completed these courses, send copies of your certificates of completion to Charlie Bryan (e-mail to cbryan@marc.org or fax to 816-421-7758).
